Update from the President
Brisk mornings and cold
nights, It feels like we are in the South Island.
I hope you all have been
able to beat off any winter flus and colds.
Firstly, thank you to all
who attended the AGM on the 5 June. It was fantastic to meet
those who attended and I look forward to meeting the rest of you in the coming
future.
Also a great acknowledgement to
our anonymous member of Rainbow Auckland for their support by matching
donations dollar-for-dollar for the month of June 2019. This came on the AGM night when discussions arose about Rainbow Auckland’s precarious financial situation.
Thank you to all who have
donated.
There is still four more days of donations that will be matched, if you would like to support us by donating, please click here!
A
group of us from Rainbow Auckland went to RainbowYOUTH’s 30th Birthday Gala on 6 June. It was encouraging
to see this event strongly supported by a wide variety of corporate businesses,
groups, individuals to even our PM Jacinda Ardern along with Grant Robertson.
Both spoke very well and made it clear where the Government is putting it’s
support. I would like to thank RainbowYOUTH for a well-run and organised
event.
On 5 July, myself and Koro Dickinson are attending a dinner at Government House in
Wellington with the Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy – our Governor-General of New Zealand.
This dinner is bringing together representatives of New Zealand’s diverse
communities.
We both are looking forward
to going and building connections that will benefit Rainbow Auckland going
forward.
It
is hard to of not seen recent media attention of certain individuals pushing
their beliefs. Regardless of what we may or may not think of these individuals, I do believe we should be giving great credit to those who are taking stances
against those who push others down. These individuals highlight, with their extreme
beliefs, why it is important to have organisations like Rainbow Auckland offering
a safe supportive network to the community creating dialogue.
I'd like to offer up a challenge for our next mixer: bring someone with you that hasn't attended one before. Think of it as a way how we
all can help sustain Rainbow Auckland — we have our own individual databases that we deal with on a daily
basis. These are powerful networks we all have and can use to grow membership.
I myself was introduced to Rainbow Auckland through my work colleague, Stewart
Morgan. Literally him bungling me into the car before I had the chance to say
yes or no and telling me we are off for a drink.
I look forward to seeing you all on 3 July.
Ngā mihi,
